To address this potential issue, expansion joints are essential on the shell to control the shell side pressure and prevent damage. This innovative design is most effective for situations where the shell side fluid is clean and free of scaling, where the temperature variation between the two fluids is minor, or if significant, the shell side pressure remains low.
