However, it is important to note a limitation: the shell side is not designed for mechanical cleaning. Additionally, when the temperature differential between the shell and the heat exchange tubes surpasses 50°C, thermal stress—also termed heat stress—may pose a risk of damage.
To address potential issues, it is essential to incorporate expansion joints on the shell, which effectively restricts pressure within the shell side, thereby safeguarding against harm. This particular design is ideally suited for scenarios where the shell-side fluid remains clean and devoid of scaling.
