It's important to consider that when the temperature difference between the shell and heat exchange tubes exceeds 50°C, potential thermal stress can become a concern.

To counteract these challenges, incorporating expansion joints on the shell side is crucial. This strategy regulates pressure, preventing damage and maintaining system integrity. This design is ideal for situations where the shell side fluid is pristine and free from scaling. It's also optimal where the temperature variance between fluids is minimal or the shell side pressure remains manageable.
