Note that in cases of significant temperature differences (exceeding 50°C) between the shell and the heat exchange tubes, thermal stress—or heat stress—might pose a challenge.

To address potential issues, expansion joints are recommended on the shell to manage and limit shell side pressure, preventing damage. This design is adept for environments where shell side fluid remains clean and non-scaling, where temperature differences between fluids are minimal, or where shell side pressure is modest.
