To address this challenge, it is imperative to implement expansion joints on the shell, which help limit the shell side pressure and safeguard against potential damage. This design is optimally suited for scenarios where the shell side fluid is both pristine and non-scaling. It is also ideal when the temperature variation between the two fluids remains moderate, or, if the temperature variation is significant, when the shell side pressure remains relatively low.
